Although it is mid-April, spring days can seem few and far between at the moment. If you are feeling cold and are looking for ways to keep your home warm, here are some of our top tips for keeping heat in your home1. Make sure doors are keeping heat in.
It’s important to have solid, draught proof doors to reduce the amount of heat lost through them. Well fitted wooden doors will help to keep warm air within you home and cold air out. If there is a gap under your door, get a draught excluder as a short term measure. Properly fitted doors, will be beneficial in the long term to keep you warm without having to set the heating to a higher temperature.
2. Make sure curtains are open and closed at the right times
Curtains and blinds can make a big difference to the temperature of a room. During the day time it can be a good idea to make sure these are open to let any sunlight enter you home and warm up the living space. Conversely, in the evening it’s important to keep curtains closed to help decrease heat loss. Also, try to avoid having curtains which close or hang directly over radiators as heat will not be able to circulate around the room effectively.
3. Use reflector sheets behind radiators
Inserting an aluminium reflector sheet behind the radiators in your house, can help to keep the heat in the room, and prevent it escaping through the wall. These sheets are particularly effective where radiators are attached to external walls, where a lot of heat is generally lost
